Membership

At the start of forming the society, there were 19 members who became life member. This was a pre-requisite for forming and registering a Professional society as per the Society Registration Act of 1860. As compiled by Mr. S.L. Katyal, the Former President, HSI during the First Annual General Body Meeting of the society held at IARI New Delhi. Following was the details of memberships and subscribers of the Indian Journal of Horticulture.
Membership position of Academy during its formative years.

There were 16 foreign subscribers. To meet the financial crunch, few advertisements were also published. It was also reported by Mr. Katyal that complimentary copies of the journal were also sent to different horticultural and agricultural stations, universities and colleges of the world. During the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1967, the membership position increased in different categories. The membership details (1967-1972) are as given in table.

During the Golden Jubilee and Platinum Jubilee years, the following was the membership position of the Society. Presently Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences has more than 1900 life members.
