One day Panel Discussion on Horticultural Development in North India – Changing Priorities, 6th November, 2006, PAU, Ludhiana
A one-day Panel Discussion on “Horticultural Development in North India – Changing Priorities” was organized by the Horticultural Society of India in collaboration with the Horticultural Science Society of the Punjab Agricultural University at Ludhiana on 6th November, 2006 to mark the Foundation Day of the Society. The event was attended by about 300 delegates comprising of scientists, extension worker’s growers and representatives of the corporate sector from northern India. Dr S.S. Gill, Director, Extension Education welcomed the participants. The event was inaugurated by Dr G.S. Kalkat, Chairman of Punjab State Farmers’ Commission who emphasized that farm scientists and policy makers should focus on enabling the farmers to enhance their income by adopting advanced techniques in horticulture like protected cultivation, improved post-harvest handling systems, marketing etc. which help in the diversification of agriculture. He also laid emphasis on off-season forcing of vegetables in north India. Dr Y.R. Chanana was Organizing Secretary and Dr V.B. Patel was the Convener for the event.
