Professor and the Director of the Vegetable and Fruit Improvement Center, Texas A&M University Agri Life, Texas, USA Dr Bhimu Patil is engaged in research on the understanding the role of health promoting factors, isolation and characterization of health promoting compounds, developing nutra-rich vegetable varieties and standardization of postharvest handling protocols. Dr Patil occupied important positions in the International Society for Horticultural Sciences (ISHS), the American Society for Horticultural Sciences, and the American Chemical Society. He headed several big research programmes and guided many PG students and Post-Doc scholars. He has highly cited 135 research publications to his credit. He received several prestigious awards including Healthy Living Lifetime Achievement Award by the Texas International Producers Association, Distinguished Service Award from the American Chemical Society, Outstanding Graduate Educator Award from the American Society for Horticultural Sciences, and Outstanding Achievement Research Award from the TAMU College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Dr Patil is Chair of the Division of Horticulture for Human Health and Vice-Chair of the Commission of Fruits, Vegetables and Human Health of the ISHS.
