Dr A.S. Sidhu*

Dr Sidhu significantly contributed to vegetable science research by developing 20 improved vegetable varieties/hybrids ofOnion, Brinjal, Ash Gourd, Sponge Gourd, Sweet Potato, Carrot and Garlic. He was also associated with evolution of 2 brinjal and 1 tomato hybrids. Three production recommendations have been included in the Package of Practices of PAU cultivation of kharif onion was standardized and popularized among the onion growers. He guided 15 postgraduate students. He authored 172 research papers, 5 book chapters, 1 bulletin, 1 book (co-edited) and 124 articles. He is Fellow of 3 societies, Vice- President of one society and Member of Vegetable Section of International Society of Horticultural Science. He is the recipient of Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Award of the ICAR in 1995, Punjab Sarkar Parman Patra 2001, Shrimati Harpal Kaur Memorial Award in 1995 and Shri Hans Raj Pahwa Memorial Award in 1997. He is Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi.
