Executive Partner, Maha Grapes, Grower, Exporter of Fresh Produce, Pune, Maharashtra Mr. Sopan Kanchan was born in year 1952 in a village Uruli- Kanchan near Pune. He had his graduation in Agricultural Science in 1973 and further completed two years training under the MAST Programme in 1977-78, at University of Minnesota, U.S.A. He formed Mahagrapes in 1991, an APEX Co-operative body of 16 Grape Growers’ (small and marginal farmers) Co-operative Societies spread across state of Maharashtra for exporting grapes to UK and Europe by adopting latest production and post-harvest technology. Sh. Kanchan has won many awards and honors for his contribution to agriculture from State and Central Govt. including “Krishi Bhushan” conferred upon by Govt. of Maharashtra, FIE Foundation, Ichhalkaranji, Kolhapur and Jagjivan Ram Kisan Puraskar, 2003 instituted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Currently, he is on board of Maratha Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Ex-director of National Horticulture Board (NHB), President of Confederation of Indian Horticulture (CIH), Member of Board of Management of Central Agricultural University, Imphal and Executive Partner, Mahagrapes
