Honouring of Scientists/ Stalwarts in Horticulture Science
The society initiated honouring scientific and developmental contribution of scientists and distinguished personalities during the special events organised by it.
During International Symposium on Citriculture in 1977 Dr K.M. Aiyappa, Dr K.C. Srivastava and Dr M.K. Ganapati working at IIHR Regional Stations, Chettali and Gonikoppal were honoured for their significant contributions in Citrus Research
In the Second International Mango Symposium in 1985, Dr K.C. Naik, Dr S.K. Mukherjee, Dr R.N. Singh and Dr K.L. Chadha were honoured by the society for their significant work on Mango Production and Improvement. .
During Golden Jubilee Symposium of HSI held at Bengaluru on the theme “Horticultural Research- Changing Scenario”, Dr Balram Jakhar, the then Union Minister of Agriculture, GoI was awarded the Special Award, Gold Medals were given to Dr S.K. Krishnamurthi, Dr S.K. Mukherjee, Dr K.L. Chadha, Dr Kirti Singh, Dr Vishnu Swarup and Dr S.N. Rao. Plaques of Honour were conferred to Dr Jayant Patil, Member Planning Commission, Sh. Harbans Singh, Agricultural Commissioner, GoI, Dr Manmohan Attavar, Chairman, IAHS and Sh. Vasatrao Arve, Progressive Farmer, Maharashtra.
In this historic event, 11 horticulturists who adorned the position of Vice Chancellor/ Deputy Director General at different agricultural universities/ institutions were also honoured with plaque. These personalities were Dr J.C. Bakhsi, Mr. M.A. Dar, Dr Kirti Singh, Dr K.L. Chadha, Dr N. Gopalakrishana, Dr V.K. Patil, Dr K.S. Chauhan, Dr R. Kashyap, Dr Ram Phal, Dr B.R. Sharma and Dr M.R. Thakur.
In 2006, Dr M.S. Swaminathan was honoured by the Society by holding a special event at NAAS Auditorium on his 80th birthday.
In 2012, the Society along with 18 other professional horticultural societies and organizations honoured Dr K.L. Chadha, President HSI on being conferred the civilian award Padma Shri from Her Excellency President of India, at NAAS auditorium.
In 2016, Special honours were given to the nine eminent horticulturists who served in the Executive Council of the society for more than 10 years and contributed to the Horticultural Research and Development.
